A W10x49 (10WF-49) steel column is boxed with 1-5/8 in. steel studs at the corners supporting one layer of 1/2 in. Type C gypsum board (Fire-Shield C Wallboard) enclosing all four sides. Related files in the same literature step up the protection: CM 2017 achieves 2 hours with a 5/8 in. Type X base layer plus 1/2 in. Type C face layer, and CM 3120 achieves 3 hours with three layers of 5/8 in. Type X (UL X510).
