IBC Table 721.1(1), Item 2-1.1 (Webs or flanges of steel beams and girders): protection by Carbonate, lightweight and sand-lightweight aggregate concrete (not including sandstone, granite and siliceous gravel) with 3" or finer metal mesh placed 1" from the finished surface anchored to the top flange and providing not less than 0.025 square inch of steel area per foot in each direction. Minimum insulating material thickness — 4-hr: 2" · 3-hr: 1-1/2" · 2-hr: 1" · 1-hr: 1". Prescriptive protection from the adopted building code — see table footnotes for conditions.
