IBC Table 721.1(2), Item 13-1.3 (Noncombustible studs—interior partition with gypsum wallboard each side): 0.055" (No. 16 carbon sheet steel gage) approved nailable metal studs (e) 24" on center with full-length 5/8" Type X gypsum wallboard (e) applied vertically and nailed 7" on center with 6d cement-coated common nails. Approved metal fastener grips used with nails at vertical butt joints along studs. Minimum finished thickness (face-to-face) — 1-hr: 4-7/8". Prescriptive assembly from the adopted building code — thicknesses are code minimums, see table footnotes for conditions.
