AWC Design CLT 3-ply wall (1-hr calculated)
1-Hour Fire Rated Mass Timber — CALCULATED per the char method (US CLT Handbook Chapter 8 worked wall
CALCULATED per the char method (US CLT Handbook Chapter 8 worked wall example; methodology adopted in NDS Chapter 16 / IBC 722.7). A 3-ply E1-grade (ANSI/PRG 320) load-bearing CLT wall, 1-3/8 in laminations, 4-1/8 in total, 12 ft tall: the exposed panel calculates to 57 minutes of structural fire resistance; one layer of 5/8 in Type X gypsum board on the fire side adds 30 minutes (57 + 30 = 87 min), exceeding the 1-hour requirement. Not a fire test.
CALCULATED per the char method (US CLT Handbook Chapter 8 worked wall example; methodology adopted in NDS Chapter 16 / IBC 722.7).
