Section 2E.20 Lateral Offset Standard: 01 Except where shielded by a rigid traffic barrier, the minimum lateral offset outside the usable roadway shoulder for post-mounted freeway and expressway signs or for overhead sign supports, either to the right-hand or left-hand side of the roadway, shall be 6 feet. This minimum clearance shall also apply outside of a curb. If located within the clear zone, the signs shall be mounted on crashworthy (see definition in Section 1C.02) supports or shielded by appropriate crashworthy barriers.
