Joist Bridging and Blocking
Joists deeper than a nominal 2×12 need lateral support: solid blocking, diagonal bridging or a continuous 1×3 strip across the bottom, at intervals of 8 ft maximum.. Referenced to IRC 2021 §R502.7.1.
