Framing Members Bearing Over Studs
Joists, trusses or rafters over 16 in. o.c. on 24 in. o.c. bearing studs must bear within 5 in. of the studs, unless the top plates are two 2×6 or two 3×4 members, a third plate is added or blocking is installed.. Referenced to IRC 2021 §R602.3.3.
