Asphalt binder testing follows the Superpave performance grading (PG) system per AASHTO M 320 and M 332. Required tests: dynamic shear rheometer (AASHTO T 315), rotational viscosity (AASHTO T 316), bending beam rheometer (AASHTO T 313), and direct tension (AASHTO T 314). PG grade selection based on climate data per LTPPBind software. Caltrans PG grades: PG 64-22 standard, PG 76-22 for high traffic/heavy loading.
All work under this section shall comply with Caltrans current standards and applicable AASHTO, ASTM, and federal requirements. The Engineer has authority to accept or reject materials and workmanship that do not conform to the specifications.
