Superelevation design follows AASHTO Method 5 (current CA policy). Distribution tables are provided for maximum superelevation rates of 8% (rural) and 4% (urban/low-speed). Superelevation runoff length is based on design speed and number of lanes rotated. The axis of rotation is typically the centerline for undivided highways and the median edge for divided highways. Superelevation transitions through intersections require special treatment per Chapter 3.
All work under this section shall comply with Caltrans current standards and applicable AASHTO, ASTM, and federal requirements. The Engineer has authority to accept or reject materials and workmanship that do not conform to the specifications.
