HMA production testing includes gradation (AASHTO T 30), asphalt content (AASHTO T 308 ignition oven), Rice specific gravity (AASHTO T 209), and volumetrics. NJDOT acceptance on a lot-by-lot basis with statistical pay factors based on percent within limits (PWL). Lot size: 4,000 tons for surface, 5,000 tons for base. Quality control testing by the contractor at minimum 1 per sublot (typically 500-1000 tons). NJ verification testing at 10% of QC frequency.
All work under this section shall comply with NJDOT current standards and applicable AASHTO, ASTM, and federal requirements. The Engineer has authority to accept or reject materials and workmanship that do not conform to the specifications.
