6-1Right-of-Way Requirements

Right-of-way design establishes the boundaries of the public right-of-way needed for the project. Minimum ROW width accounts for roadway cross section, slopes, drainage, utilities, and future widening. NCDOT standard ROW: Interstate 300 ft, arterial 120-150 ft, collector 80-100 ft. Temporary construction easements are required for work outside the permanent ROW. Access rights determined by highway classification and state access management policy.
