202Excavation and Grading

Excavation classifications: common excavation, rock excavation, unclassified excavation. Rock determination criteria: material requiring blasting or mechanical breaking. Grade tolerance: ±0.05 ft for subgrade, ±0.02 ft for fine grading under pavement. Cut slope ratios per design plans; typical: 2:1 for soil, 0.5:1 for rock. Embankment slope: 2:1 minimum, 3:1 or flatter near structures. Unsuitable material removal and replacement as directed by the Resident Engineer.

All work under this section shall comply with UDOT current standards and applicable AASHTO, ASTM, and federal requirements. The Engineer has authority to accept or reject materials and workmanship that do not conform to the specifications.
