A.Materials:
1.Posts - Use posts in the fence system that meet 6105T5 in accordance with ASTM B221, or an aluminum alloy having a minimum strength of 35,000 -PSI.
2.Rails - Use rails in the fence system that meet 6105T5 in accordance with ASTM B221, or an aluminum alloy having a minimum strength of 35,000 -PSI.
3.Pickets - Use pickets in the fence system that meet 6105T5 in accordance with ASTM B221, or an aluminum alloy having a minimum strength of 15,000 -PSI.
4.Fasteners – Use 302 stainless -steel self -drilling head for all screws. Paint all screws to match the finish of fence. Provide fasteners compatible with fence material for exterior exposure.
5.Post caps - aluminum castings in accordance with ASTM B26.
6.Brackets - aluminum castings. If any material will come into contact with PCC, use galvanized steel for castings.
7.Scrolls - aluminum castings. If any material will come into contact with PCC, use galvanized steel for castings.
8.Finishes - aluminum castings. If any material will come into contact with PCC, use galvanized steel for castings.
9.Other miscellaneous hardware - aluminum castings. If any material will come into contact with PCC, use galvanized steel for castings.
10.Non -shrink grout – Use a non -shrink grout to fill post sleeves.
11.Provide grout with a minimum compressive strength of 5,000 -PSI and 0 expansion or shrinkage at 7-calendar days when tested in accordance with AASHTO T106 and AASHTO T160, respectively.
B.Pretreatment. FENCE SECTION 1061 719 1. Apply a 3 -stage non -chrome pretreatment as follows:
a.Chemically clean,
b.rinse with water, and then
c.apply a dry -in-place activator that produces a uniform chemical conversion coating.
2.Plate the screws in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
C.Coating - Provide material coated in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Do not use epoxy powder coatings, baked enamel, or acrylic paint finishes. Finish materials with a cured film thickness of 50 -µm or greater. Paint the screw heads to match the color of the fence.
1.Tests – Provide a cured approved finish meeting the following requirements:
a.Humidity resistance of 3,000 -hours using ASTM D2247.
b.Salt spray resistance of 3,000 -hours using ASTM B117.
c.Accelerated weathering for 1,000 -hours under ASTM D822 showing no adhesion loss, with only a slight fading, chalking, and water staining.
d.Minimum hardness of 2H using ASTM D3363.
D.Grounding material:
1.Ground rod:
a.Underwriters Laboratories Listed and Approved.
b.5/8-inch Nominal Diameter.
c.8 feet long, Minimum.
d.Copper -bonded Steel.
2.Ground rod clamp:
a.Underwriters Laboratories UL467 Approved.

1061.10 Bridge Safety Fence.

A.Chain -link fabric made of galvanized steel fabric fence, #9 -gage having a 1 -inch diamond mesh unless specified otherwise. Type 1 class D coated, knuckled top and bottom or twist top/knuckle FENCE SECTION 1061 720 bottom conforming to the appropriate requirements of AASHTO M181. Ensure fabric is continuous across all joints.
B.Vertical post – Made of steel pipe in accordance with the requirements of AASHTO M181, Type I or Type II, Grade 1 or Grade 2, schedule 40 with a minimum strength of 50,000 -PSI. Provide consistent coating type within a single fence installation.
C.Longitudinal pipe – Made of steel pipe in accordance with the requirements of AASHTO M181, Type I or Type II, Grade 1 or Grade 2, schedule 40 with a minimum strength of 50,000 -PSI. Provide consistent coating type within a single fence installation.
D.Base plate - Provide base plates of a minimum steel grade of 36,000 -PSI galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123.
E.Anchor studs - ASTM A276.
F.Hex nuts and washers for anchor studs – AASHTO M181.
G.Single #9 -gage or double #13 -gage tie wires - AASHTO M181, Type 1 class D coated.
H.Stretcher bar attachment – AASHTO M181.
I.Stretcher bar – AASHTO M181.
J.Truss rod assembly – AASHTO M181.

1.When required by the contract, vinyl coat all chain link fence materials in accordance with AASHTO M181 Type IV Class A.

A.Gate frame:
1.Conforming to the requirements of AASHTO M181.
2.Provide corners made of heavy malleable iron or pressed steel fittings, securely riveted or welded.
3.Paint the welds with aluminum base or zinc base paint.
B.Chain -link fabric made of galvanized steel fabric fence, #9 -gage unless specified otherwise. Type 1 class D coated, knuckled top and bottom or twist top/knuckle bottom conforming to the appropriate requirements of AASHTO M181.
