Major Contract Item
Defined in the standard specifications of 2 state transportation agencies. Each definition below is the agency’s own text, with the section it comes from — they do not all say the same thing, and on a contract the difference is the point.

Any item, excluding mobilization, having a Bid Item Price of ten percent (10.0%) or more of the Total Bid Amount for the Contract, minus the amount
Section 101 — Abbreviations, Symbols, T erms, and Definitions →A “major item” shall be construed to be any individual bid item included in the proposal that has a total cost equal to or greater than $50,000 or 5% of the total contract cost, whichever is the lesser amou nt. The total contract cost shall be computed on the basis of the proposal quantities and contract unit prices.
