Survey Monument

Any physical structure, a long with any references or accessories, used to mark the location of a land boundary survey corner, geodetic control point, or local control point. There are many different types of survey monuments (e.g., public and private land corners, highway and inte rstate monuments, National Geodetic Survey (NGS) horizontal control monuments and benchmarks). Survey monuments may be marked stones, brass or aluminum caps, reinforcing bar with or without metal or plastic caps, and various other installa tions or combinations intended to mark locations (e.g., public and private land corners, control points, benchmarks).
