616.01 Description. This item shall consist of furnishing and
installing automatic floodgates for closing corruga ted metal pipes, according to these specifications, and at the locat ions shown on the plans or as directed.
616.02 Materials. Automatic floodgates shall be of standard
design and shall be made of cast iron complying wit h AASHTO M 105 for Gray Iron Castings. The gates sha ll be carefully machined, water-tight, entirely automatic in their operation, and shall meet the approval of the Engineer. They shall be sensitive to a difference in water level and must be hinged s o as to seat accurately.
616.03 Construction Requirements. The floodgate shall be
attached to the section of corrugated metal pipe be fore the pipe is placed and the pipe must be so laid that the flap v alve, without pressure from either side, will seat against the fl ange.
616.04 Method of Measurement. Automatic Floodgates will be
measured by the unit.
616.05 Basis of Payment. Work performed and accepted and
measured as provided above will be paid for at the contract unit price bid per each for Automatic Floodgates of the size specified, which price shall be full compensation for furnishi ng and installing 455 the gate and for all labor, equipment, tools, and i ncidentals necessary to complete the work.
