567STRIP SEAL EXPANSION JOINT

567.01 Description.

Provide and install a strip seal expansion joint with the movement ratings specified.

567.02 Materials.

A.Metal. Provide extruded steel sections and anchorage gusset plates fabricated from structural steel that meets AASHTO M 27 0, Grade 36 or other approved steel used in a system. Provide steel reinforcing bars used in anchorage that meets AASHTO M 31, Grade 60.
B.Neoprene Seals. Provide preformed neoprene extrusions fabricated from polychloroprene (neoprene) that is resistant to heat, oil, jet fuel, ozone, and UV rays and meets ASTM D5973. Provide a 1- piece seal full length of the expansion joint.
C.Adhesive. Provide lubricating, elastic adhesive for installing the neoprene seals in the steel extrusions that meets the requirements of ASTM D4070 or in accordance with approved manufacturer's written specificati ons.

567.03 Construction Requirements.

A.Working Drawings. Submit working drawings as specified in 504.01.F.
B.Installation. Install the expansion joint as specified, approved shop drawings, and manufacturer’s written instructions. Supply special tools or materials required for the joint installation. The expansion joint manufacturer must have a qualified technical service representative on the project site to supervise the installation, review the supporting steel details, and inspect the interface surfaces. Ensure welding meets current AASHTO specifications and 504. Deliver and install the neoprene extrusi ons as continuous elements along the full length of the joint. Ensure shop- welded splices in steel extrusions are as specified on the shop drawings . The Engineer will only allo w field splices in steel extrusions at locations specified. Thoroughly clean the metal surfaces in direct contact with the neoprene seal and concrete to provide a high- strength bond between the mating steel surfaces with the neoprene seal and concrete. Properly position and attach the joint assembly to the structure before placing concrete in the adjacent deck or back wall. Provide for smooth ride when positioning the deck joint. Ensure the steel joint extrusions on each side of the joint are straight, parallel, and in proper vertical alignment. If the joint extrusions are not properly aligned, adjust or replace at no additional cost to the Department. Cover bridge deck joints with protective material after installation until final cleanup of the bridge deck. for Highway Construction Page 431 of 71 5 C. Testing and Inspection. After the joints are installed, flood with water and inspect from below the joint for leakage. If leakage is observed, repair the joint at no additional cost to the Department.

567.04 Method of Measurement.

The Engineer will measure acceptably completed work by the foot.

567.05 Basis of Payment .

568.01 Description.

Provide and install elastomeric concrete headers in prepared blockout areas as specified. Include the collection and disposal of waste debris.

568.02 Materials.

Provide elastomeric concrete that consists of a field- mixed, 2- part polyurethane material and pre- graded aggregate mix; the Department does not allow epoxy -based materials. Provide a manufacturer’s certification that attests the proposed materials are pre -tested and meets this specification.

A.Elastomeric Concrete. Provide ambient cure material, 100 percent solids, 2- component polyurethane with pre- graded aggregate mix exhibit ing the physical properties listed in Tables 568.02- 1 and 568.02- 2. When properly mixed and poured, the elastomeric concrete cures rapidly, flows and fills voids, spalls, or irregularities to form a monolithic unit.
