SECTION 667: REST AREA AND MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
667.1 Description
This Work consists of providin g and constructing rest area item s and miscellaneous improvements.
667.2 Materials
667.2.1 Portland Cement Concrete
The Contractor shall provide portland cement and aggregate for concrete in accordance with Section 509, “Portland Ceme nt Concrete Mix Designs.”
667.2.2 Steel
The Contractor shall provide steel reinforcement in accordance with Section 540, “Steel Reinforcement.” The Contractor shall provide anchor bolts for mailbox installations in accordance with ASTM A 307 Grade A steel. The Contractor shall provide zinc coated anchor nuts and bolts.
667.3 Construction Requirements
The Contractor shall construct Work in accordance with the appl icable local and State codes, ordinances, and regulations governing the particular cla ss of Work involved. If there is a conflict between the applicable codes and the req uirements in the Contract, the Contractor shall use the more stringent requirements. After completing the Work, the Contractor shall clean the areas of debris and leave them in their existing or an improved condition.
667.3.1 Mailbox Installations
The Contractor shall install mailboxes in accordance with AASHT O’s “A Guide for Erecting Mail Boxes on Highways.” The Contractor shall contact and coordinate with the local post office and property owner before removing old mailboxes and installing new mailboxes. Th e Contractor shall provide and install temporary mailboxes, if necessary, as directed by t he Project Manager.
667.4 Method of Measurement
The Department will measure special landscaping items by units specified in the Contract.
667.4.1 Measurement Clarifications
A single mailbox installation c onsists of one (1) mailbox and o ne (1) mailbox support. A double mailbox installation cons ists of two (2) mailboxes and one (1) mailbox support. Multiple mailbox installations c onsist of from three (3) to 16 mailboxes and one (1) mailbox support. A picnic table unit cons ists of one (1) picnic table and two (2) benches. 667.5.1 Work Included in Payment
The following Work and items will be considered as included in the payment for the main items and will not be measured or paid for separately: 1. Labor, tools, Equipment, and appurtenances necessary to sati sfactorily complete the Work as approved by the Project Manager; 2. Removal and disposal of shr ubs, brush, rocks, or other obsta cles that interfere with proper installation of the improvements; 3. Concrete slabs, steel anchor devices, reinforcement, and fou ndations for rest area items; 4. Coordination with the local post office and property owner; 5.
