00581.00 568 Section 00581 - Bridge Drainage Systems

Description

00581.00Scope - This Work consists of furnishing and installing metal deck drains, drain pipe and

appurtenances for Bridges as shown, specified or directed. This Work consists of adjusting manholes and inlets on Bridges as shown, specified or directed.

Materials

00581.10Mater ials - Furnish steel pipe of standard weight meeting the requirements of ASTM A53

and galvanized after fabrication according to AASHTO M 111 ( ASTM A123).

Furnish deck drains, hangers, clamps, replacement inlet grates and other Incidentals meeting the requirements of AASHTO M183 (ASTM A36), Section 02530 and Section 02560. Galvanize after fabrication according to AASHTO M111 (ASTM A123).

Construction

00581.40General - To prevent movement during concrete placement, support the pipe and deck

drains by ties and other approved devices according to 00530.41.

00581.41Modifying Existing Manholes and Inlets - Modify existing manholes and inlets on

Bridges as shown and according to the following:

(a)Modifying Manholes - Modify manholes as follows:

Remo ve existing manhole covers and reuse when shown. Remove existing concrete deck around the manhole frame according to Section 00504. Clean and prepare the existing steel manhole frame in place. Field weld steel riser rings as shown. Perform all field welding according to AWS D1.1. Adjust riser rings to be flush with the proposed Roadway profile and maintain a uniform contact with the existing manhole frame. Complete this portion of the Work prior to the installation of the overlay. Clean the new surface by brushing and moistening with water at the time of placing the overlay.

(b)Modifying Inlets - Modify inlets as follows:

Remove existing inlet grates and reuse when shown. Remove existing concrete deck around inlet frame according to Section 00504. Remove portions of the existing inlet frames as shown. Clean and prepare the existing steel inlet frame in place. Adjust or install replacement inlet grate as shown. Adjust the inlet grate to be flush with the proposed Roadway profile and maintain uniform contact with the existing inlet frame. Complete this portion of the Work prior to the installation of the overlay. Clean the new surface by brushing and moistening with water at the time of placing the overlay.

00581.90 569 00581.42 Appurtenances - Provide a water tight connection to the deck drains in the bridge deck as shown or directed.

00581.50Test Bridge Drainage Systems - Test bridge deck drains and pipe connections to the

storm drain system according to Section 00445 to ensure that the drains and drain pi pe are water tight and free of obstructions.

Measurement

00581.80Measurement - The quantities of Work performed under this Section will be measured on

the unit basis.

Payment

00581.90Payment - The accepted quantities of Work performed under this Section will be paid for

at the Contract unit price, per unit of measurement , for the following items: Pay Item Unit of Measurement

(a)Bridge Drains ........................................................................................ Each
(b)Modifying Existing Bridge Drains .......................................................... Each

Item (b) includes modifying existing drainage manholes and inlets on Bridges.

Payment will be payment in full for furnishing and placing all Materials, and for furnishing all Equipment , labor, and Incidentals necessary to complete the Work as specified.

No separate or additional payment will be made for drain pipe connected to bridge drains or for water used in testing the drain systems.

No separate or additional payment will be made for field measurement, removal and disposal of existing grates.
