205.1DESCRIPTION
This work will consist of the application of a magnesium chloride solution, a calcium chloride solution, or water to a prepared surface for dust control.
205.2MATERIALS
A.Dust Control Chloride: Dust control chloride materials will conform to Section 891. B.Water for Dust Control: Water for dust control will be furnished by the Contractor and will be free from injurious matter.
205.3CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
A.Dust Control Chlorides: Dust control chlorides will be uniformly applied under pressure in liquid form by mechanical equipment. The equipment must be such that the application rate can be set, determined, and changed as required. The rate of application will be 1.2 pounds per square yard of surfacing. This weight will be the anhydrous weight of calcium chloride or magnesium chloride in the solution as determined from the Certificate of Compliance. The material may be applied in one or two applications. Additional applications or spot applications may be necessary to maintain dust control. 1.Short Term Application: The dust control material will be surface applied. 2.Long Term Application: The dust control material will be blended into the top 1 to 2 inches of the gravel surfacing. The addition of water may be necessary to adequately compact the material. Compaction will be required to the satisfaction of the Engineer. No separate payment will be made for water added for compaction. B.Water for Dust Control: Water will be surface applied to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
205.4METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
A.Dust Control Chlorides: Dust control chlorides long term application and short term application will be measured by the anhydrous weight in pounds. The weight of anhydrous material will be based on the actual concentration to the nearest 0.1% as determined by the Department’s Materials & Surfacing Central Laboratory and the actual weight of the solution applied. B.Water for Dust Control: Water for dust control will be measured by the thousand gallons (MGal.) to the nearest 0.1 MGal. Measurement will be by use of calibrated tanks or an approved water metering device which records in gallons. 205 Page 140Prior to using any water metering device, the Contractor will furnish a certified statement that such device conforms to AWWA requirements. The statement will show that the device has been calibrated within the past year. Should subsequent measurements prove the measurements are unreliable, another certified device producing satisfactory measurements will be furnished. The head of each device will be sealed when calibrated and the absence of such seal will be cause to prohibit its use.
205.5BASIS OF PAYMENT
A.Dust Control Chlorides: Dust control chlorides will be paid for at the contract unit price per pound. Payment will be full compensation for all equipment, labor, tools, materials, and incidentals necessary to complete the work. B.Water for Dust Control: Water for dust control will be paid for at the contract unit price per thousand gallons (MGal). 210 Page 141210 ROADWAY SHAPING
210.1DESCRIPTION
This work consists of reshaping an existing surface prior to placement of surfacing material.
210.2MATERIALS (Not Specified)
210.3CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
This work will be performed in advance of placement of surfacing material. It will be the Contractor's responsibility to maintain the prepared surface until surfacing has been placed. A.Surface Preparation: The upper 4 inches of granular material will be scarified, reworked, shaped, and recompacted to the typical section in accordance with Section 260.3 C. B.Ordinary Roadway Shaping: The existing granular material will be removed, and the upper 6 inches of the subgrade will be reworked and recompacted in accordance with Section 120.3 B.3.a . After the subgrade is reworked and recompacted, the granular material will be brought back onto the roadway and recompacted in accordance with Section 260.3 D. On newly constructed earth subgrades, the upper 6 inches of the subgrade will be reworked and recompacted in accordance with Section 120.3 B.3.a prior to placing granular materials. This requirement will be waived for A-3 and A-2-4(0) soils. C.Heavy Roadway Shaping: The existing granular material will be removed and upper 12 inches of the subgrade will be reworked and recompacted in a minimum of two lifts in accordance with Section
120.3B.3.a . The Engineer may order the Contractor to rework and recompact the subgrade to a
depth greater than 12 inches. If more than 12 inches of the subgrade is reworked and recompacted, the maximum lift thickness during recompaction will not exceed 6 inches. After the subgrade is reworked and recompacted, the granular material will be brought back onto the roadway and recompacted in accordance with Section 260.3 D. On newly constructed earth subgrades, the upper 12 inches of the subgrade will be reworked and recompacted in accordance with Section 120.3 B.3.a prior to placing granular materials. This requirement will be waived for A-3 and A-2-4(0) soils. D.Unclassified Excavation, Digouts: Unclassified excavation, digouts consists of the removal and disposal of unstable material below the required depth of surface preparation, ordinary roadway shaping, or heavy roadway shaping on which surfacing material is to be placed. If unstable material is encountered the Contractor will excavate unstable material. When granular material is used for backfill, the excavated area will extend to a daylight point so lateral drainage is provided. The exposed undercut surface will be satisfactorily compacted prior to backfilling. Backfill will be placed and compacted as directed by the Engineer. The subgrade will be finished to within minus 0.04 feet to plus 0.08 feet from the design grade and typical section shown in the plans and to within ±0.5% of the typical section cross slope. The quarter crown within any 12 foot transverse length will not exceed 0.04 feet when measured
