Sodium chloride will conform to AASHTO M 143. 790 Page 510790 WATER FOR USE IN PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE 790 WATER FOR USE IN PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE Water used in Portland Cement concrete and cement stabilization will be clean and free of oil, salt, acid, alkali, sugar, vegetation, effluent from a sewage disposal plant, and other substances detrimental to the finished product. Water containing suspended matter will be checked for total solids. The total solids will not exceed 50,000 parts per million. Water will be tested for pH and dissolved solids. The pH will be no less than 6.0 or more than 8.6. Maximum dissolved solids will be no more than 2,500 parts per million.
