B.Authorized Products List (APL) Compliance Form for information for detectable warning surface.
1.6 Certified Installer Requirements
A.Certified Installer must:
1.Be employed by the Contractor or Subcontractor .
2.Have successfully completed Department ’s ADA Pedestrian Ramp Training Course within the last 3 years . Refer to http://www.udot.utah.gov/go/standardsreferences .
3.Be on project site during forming, installation, and inspection of pedestrian access ramp.
Part 2 — Products
2.1 Concrete
A.Class AA(AE) . Refer to Section 03055.
B.Portland Cement Concrete Pavement. Refer to Section 02752.
C.Concrete Flatwork. Refer to Section 02776
2.2 Asphalt Mix
A.Refer to Section 02741.
2.3 Untreated Base Course
A.Refer to Section 02721.
2.4 Detectable Warning Surface
A.Use In-line truncated dome pattern that meets the requirements of the PA Series Standard Drawings.
B.Provide a color that contrasts visually with the adjoining surfaces, either light-on-dark or dark -on-light.
C.Minimize number of panels used
1.Acceptable modular panel sizes are 2 ft x 2 ft, 2 ft x 3 ft, 2 ft x 4 ft, 2 ft x 5 ft, or curved panels .
D.Acceptable products for installation:
1.Polymer Composite Panel
a.Epoxy polymer composition
b.Homogenous integral color , UV stable, s lip resistant, non- glare finish.
c.Use for new construction and retrofit construction.
2.Precast Concrete Panel
a.Fiber reinforced high strength concrete composition

3.Gray Iron Casting Panel
a.ASTM A 48 Class 35B, as specified in AASHTO M 306, iron composition with embedment anchors
b.Reasonably smooth, uniform quality, slip resistant, weathered iron finish, cleaned by shot blasting, free from sand holes, burned- on sand, gas holes, cracks, and other surface defects.
c.Use for new construction only.
2.5 Forms
A.Use wood, metal, reinforced fiberglass, or plastic forms free of warps or bends and of sufficient strength to prevent deflection during the placement of concrete.
1.Transition smoothly from curves to straight sections.
a.Keep forms in curves free of flat sections and sharp bends.
2.Anchor securely in place.
3.Clean the inside surfaces of dirt, concrete , and foreign material before concrete placement.
Part 3 — Execution
3.1 General
A.Refer to PA Series Standard Drawings.
3.2 Reconstruct Pedestrian Access Ramp
A.Remove concrete and asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalk, and concrete curb and gutter as required. Refer to Section 02221.
B.Reconstruct Pedestrian Access Ramp as required.
3.3 Detectable Warning Surface
A.Install Detectable Warning Surface according to the manufacturer’s product data sheets and installation instructions.
1.Polymer Composite Detectable Warning Surface Panel Installation
a.Install cast -in-place detectable warning surface panel directly into the finished concrete surface. 1) Provide a smooth transition between the panel and the surrounding concrete surface.
b.Install surface- applied detectable warning surface panel directly on the existing concrete surface. 1) Use mechanical fasteners to secure the panel to the existing surface. 2) Caulk a smooth transition bead along beveled panel edge and surrounding concrete surface.
2.Precast Concrete Detectable Warning Surface Panel , and Gray Iron Casting Detectable Warning Surface Panel Installation
a.Install using cast-in-place method. 1) Provide a smooth transition between the panel and the surrounding concrete surface.
B.Replace Detectable Warning surface
1.Remove existing surface- applied detectable warning surface without damaging the concrete surface.
2.Clean concrete surface and install new detectable warning surface according to the manufacturer’s product data sheets and installation instructions.
