MUTCD D5-7: Tourist Information and Welcome Center Signs
The D5-7 sign is covered in Section 2I.08 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Guidance · Recommended (should)The number of supplemental sign panels installed with Tourist Information or Welcome Center signs should be limited to three so as not to impose an undue informational load on the road user.
- Standard · Required (shall)Tourist Information or Welcome Center signs (see Figure 2I-7) shall hav e a white legend and border on a blue background. Continuously staffed or unstaffed operation at least 8 hours per day, 7 days per week, shall be required.
Placement and mounting
- Support · InformationTourist information and welcome centers have been constructed within rest areas on freeways and expressways and are operated by either a State or a private organization. Others have been located within close proximity to these facilities and operated by civic clubs, chambers of commerce, or private enterprise.
- Guidance · Recommended (should)For tourist information centers that are located off the freeway or expressway facility, additional signing criteria should be as follows: A. Each State should adopt a policy establishing the maximum distance that a tourist information center can be located from the interchange in order to be included on official signs. B.
