MUTCD M4-5P: TO Auxiliary Plaque
The M4-5P sign is covered in Section 2D.21 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)The TO (M4-5P) auxiliary plaque (see Figure 2D-5 ) may be used to provide directional guidance to a particular road facility from other highways in the vicinity (see Section 2D.34).
- Standard · Required (shall)If used, the TO auxiliary plaque shall be mounted directly above a route sign or an auxiliary plaque for an alternative route. If a Cardinal Direction auxiliary plaque is also included in the assembly, the TO auxiliary plaque shall be mounted directly above the Cardinal Direction auxiliary plaque.
