MUTCD R14-3: Hazardous Material Signs
The R14-3 sign is covered in Section 2B.67 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)The Hazardous Material Route (R14-2) sign (see Figure 2B-31) may be used to identify routes that have been designated by proper authority for vehicles transporting hazardous material.
- Option · Permitted (may)On routes where the transporting of hazardous material is prohibited, the Hazardous Material Prohibition (R14-3) sign (see Figure 2B-31) may be used.
Placement and mounting
- Guidance · Recommended (should)If used, the Hazardous Material Prohibition sign should be installed on a street or roadway at a point where vehicles transporting hazardous material have the opportunity to take an alternate route.
