MUTCD R16-15a: No Hand-Held Phone Use by Driver Signs
The R16-15a sign is covered in Section 2B.72 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)A STATE LAW NO HAND-HELD PHONE USE BY DRIVER (R16-15 or R16-15a) sign (see Figure 2B-33) may be installed in accordance with the provisions of Section 2A.01 to notify drivers that they are prohibited from using hand-held telephones while driving.
- Option · Permitted (may)If the specific requirements of a State law vary, the word legend of the R16-15 series signs may be modified to reflect the appropriate law.
