MUTCD R2-2P: Vehicle Speed Limit Plaques
The R2-2P sign is covered in Section 2B.22 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Standard · Required (shall)Where a special speed limit applies to certain classes of vehicles, the Truck Speed Limit (R2-2P) plaque, Bus Speed Limit (R2-2aP) plaque, Truck-Bus Speed Limit (R2-2bP) plaque, or Vehicles over X Tons Speed Limit (R2-2cP) plaque (see Figure 2B-3 ) shall be displayed below the Speed Limit (R2-1) sign, except as provided in Paragraph 2 of this Section.
- Option · Permitted (may)The legend of a Vehicle Speed Limit (R2-2P series) plaque may be combined in a single sign and displayed below the SPEED LIMIT XX legend, similar to the Combined Maximum and Minimum Speed Limits (R2-4a) sign (see Section 2B.24).
