MUTCD R4-4: BEGIN RIGHT TURN LANE YIELD TO BIKES Sign
The R4-4 sign is covered in Section 9B.05 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)Where motor vehicles entering a mandatory right-turn lane must weave across bicyclists in bicycle lanes, the BEGIN RIGHT TURN LANE YIELD TO BIKES (R4-4) sign (see Figure 9B-1) may be used to inform both the motorist and the bicyclist of this weaving maneuver (see Figures 9E-3 and 9E-4 ).
- Guidance · Recommended (should)The R4-4 sign should not be used when bicyclists need to move left because of a right-turn lane drop situation.
