MUTCD R5-1a: WRONG WAY Sign
The R5-1a sign is covered in Section 2B.47 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)The WRONG WAY (R5-1a) sign (see Figure 2B-13) may be used as a supplement to the DO NOT ENTER sign where a crossroad intersects a one-way roadway in a manner that does not physically discourage or prevent wrong-way entry (see Figures 2B-14 a nd 2B-20 ).
- Guidance · Recommended (should)If used, the WRONG WAY sign should be placed at a location along the one-way roadway farther from the crossroad than the DO NOT ENTER sign (see Section 2B.46).
