MUTCD W1-6: One-Direction Large Arrow Sign
The W1-6 sign is covered in Section 2C.10 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)A One-Direction Large Arrow (W1-6) sign (see Figure 2C-1 ) may be used either as a supplement or alternative to Chevron Alignment signs or delineators in order to delineate a change in horizontal alignment (see Fig ure 2C-2 ).
- Option · Permitted (may)A One-Direction Large Arrow (W1-6) sign may be used to supplement a Turn (W1-1) or Reverse Turn (W1-3) sign (see Figure 2C-2 ) to emphasize the abrupt curvature.
Placement and mounting
- Standard · Required (shall)If used, the One-Direction Large Arrow sign shall be installed on the outside of a turn or curve in line with and at approximately a right angle to approaching traffic.
