MUTCD W10-12: Skewed Crossing Sign
The W10-12 sign is covered in Section 8B.22 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)The Skewed Crossing (W10-12) sign (see Figure 8B-4) may be used at a skewed grade crossing to warn road users that the tracks are not perpendicular to the highway.
- Guidance · Recommended (should)If the Skewed Crossing sign is used, the symbol should show the direction of the crossing (near left to far right as shown on the sign image in Figure 8B-4 , or the mirror image if the track goes from far left to near right).
Placement and mounting
- Standard · Required (shall)The Skewed Crossing sign shall not be used as a replacement for the required Advance Warning (W10-1) sign. If used, the Skewed Crossing sign shall be used in addition to the W10-1 sign and shall be mounted on a separate post.Page 1006 MUTCD 11th Edition
