MUTCD W10-15P: ROUGH CROSSING Plaque

The W10-15P sign is covered in Section 8B.25 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.

What it means and when it is used

  • Option · Permitted (may)
The ROUGH CROSSING (W10-15P) plaque (see Figure 8B-4) may be mounted below the Grade Crossing Advance Warning (W10-1 through W10-4) sign on the approach to a grade crossing to provide supplemental information that the surface or condition of the grade crossing might require a reduced speed or some other appropriate action by the road user.
  • Option · Permitted (may)
If the grade crossing is rough, word message signs such as BUMP , DIP , or ROUGH CROSSING may be installed. A W13-1P advisory speed plaque may be installed below the word message sign in advance of rough crossings.
