MUTCD W16-1aP: IN ROAD and IN STREET Plaques
The W16-1aP sign is covered in Section 2C.67 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)In situations where there is a need to warn drivers to watch for other slower forms of transportation traveling along the highway, such as bicycles, pedestrians, golf carts, horse-drawn vehicles, or farm machinery, an IN ROAD (W16-1P) plaque or IN STREET (W16-1aP) plaque (see Figure 2C-16 ) may be used.
- Standard · Required (shall)The background color of the W16-1P or W16-1aP plaque shall match the background color of the warning sign with which it is displayed. If a W16-1P or W16-1aP plaque is used, it shall be mounted below either a Vehicular Traffic Warning sign (see Section 2C.54) or a Non-Vehicular Warning sign (see Section 2C.55), and shall not be mounted alone.
