MUTCD W16-2: Distance Plaques

The W16-2 sign is covered in Section 2C.61 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.

What it means and when it is used

  • Option · Permitted (may)
    The Distance Ahead (W16-2 series and W16-3 series) plaques (see Figure 2C-16 ) may be used to inform the road user of the distance to the condition indicated by the warning sign.
  • Option · Permitted (may)
    The Next Distance (W7-3aP and W16-4P) plaques (see Figures 2C-5 and 2C-16) may be used to inform road users of the length of roadway over which the condition indicated by the warning sign exists.
