MUTCD W17-1: SPEED HUMP Sign
The W17-1 sign is covered in Section 2C.27 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Guidance · Recommended (should)The SPEED HUMP (W17-1) sign (see Figure 2C-7 ) should be used in advance of a vertical deflection in the roadway that is designed to limit the speed of traffic.
- Guidance · Recommended (should)If used, the SPEED HUMP sign should be supplemented by an Advisory Speed plaque (see Figure 2C-1 and Section 2C.59).
