MUTCD W18-1: NO TRAFFIC SIGNS Sign
The W18-1 sign is covered in Section 2C.33 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)The NO TRAFFIC SIGNS (W18-1) sign (see Figure 2C-6 ) may be used only on low-volume rural roads to advise road users that no signs are installed along the distance of the road. The sign may be installed at the point where road users would enter the low volume road or where, based on engineering judgment, the road user might need this information. Sect. 2C.33 to 2C.34
- Option · Permitted (may)A W7-3aP (see Figure 2C-5 ), W16-2P (see Figure 2C-16 ), or W16-9P (see Figure 2C-16 ) supplemental plaque with the legend NEXT XX MILES, XX FEET, or AHEAD may be installed below the W18-1 sign when appropriate.
