MUTCD W20-3: ROAD CLOSED Sign

The W20-3 sign is covered in Section 6H.05 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.

What it means and when it is used

  • Guidance · Recommended (should)
    The ROAD (STREET) CLOSED (W20-3) sign (see Figure 6H-1 ) should be used in advance of the point where a highway is closed to all road users, or to all but local road users.
  • Option · Permitted (may)
    The legend STREET may be substituted for ROAD and the distance legend may be either XX FEET, XX MILES, or AHEAD.
