MUTCD W23-2a: NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN and NEW SIGNAL OPERATION AHEAD Signs
The W23-2a sign is covered in Section 2C.38 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)A NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN AHEAD (W23-2) sign (see Figure 2C-8 ) may be used on the approach to an intersection or along a section of roadway to provide advance warning of a change in traffic patterns, such as revised lane usage or roadway geometry.
- Option · Permitted (may)A NEW SIGNAL OPERATION AHEAD (W23-2a) sign (see Figure 2C-8 ) may be used on the approach to a signalized intersection to provide advance warning of a change in signal phasing.
