MUTCD W8-1: BUMP and DIP Signs
The W8-1 sign is covered in Section 2C.26 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Guidance · Recommended (should)BUMP (W8-1) and DIP (W8-2) signs (see Figure 2C-7 ) should be used in advance of a sharp rise or depression in the profile of the road.
- Option · Permitted (may)These signs may be supplemented with an Advisory Speed plaque (see Figure 2C-1 and Section 2C.59).
