MUTCD W8-10: Bicycle Surface Condition Warning Sign

The W8-10 sign is covered in Section 9C.03 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.

What it means and when it is used

  • Option · Permitted (may)
    The Bicycle Surface Condition Warning (W8-10) sign (see Figure 9C-1) may be installed where roadway or shared-use path conditions could cause a bicyclist to lose control of the bicycle.
  • Option · Permitted (may)
    Signs warning of other conditions that might be of concern to bicyclists, including BUMP (W8-1), DIP (W8-2), PA VEMENT ENDS (W8-3), and any other word message that describes conditions that are of concern to bicyclists, may also be used (see Fig ure 9C-1 ).
