Do you need a permit?
Polk County requires a permit for electrical work.
Polk County's Building Division permits unincorporated Polk County. Lakeland, Winter Haven, Bartow, Haines City, Auburndale and the county's other municipalities run their own building departments and set their own fees - confirm which authority covers the parcel first. Two statutory exemptions apply countywide and are recited in the resolution itself: under Fla. Stat. 604.50(1), a nonresidential farm building on land in bona fide agricultural use is exempt from the Florida Building Code and from any county or municipal code or fee, except provisions implementing local, state or federal floodplain management regulations; and under Fla. Stat. 489.113(4)(a), a state-licensed contractor need only produce credentials and pay the permit fee to obtain a building permit. Per-permit-type exemption thresholds under Florida Building Code 105.2 are not yet recorded for Polk County.
