Re-roof permit checklist — Louisville, Kentucky

Assembled from Louisville’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Louisville does not require a permit for a re-roof.

When a permit is not required

Reroofing generally does not require a building permit, and the building department does not inspect that work. A building permit is required when structural parts of the roof such as the roof deck or rafters are replaced, when damaged materials have to be replaced in bringing an older roof up to current standards, and when structural repairs are needed before a new roof covering is installed. A permit is not required to meet the minimum roof slope of a quarter inch of rise for every 12 inches of run, or to add overflow drains or scuppers, where the existing roof already drains properly.
