Fence permit checklist — Springfield, Massachusetts
Assembled from Springfield’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Springfield does not require a permit for a fence.
A fence at or below six feet in height in a Residential District does not require a Tier 3 Special Permit under Section 7.4.21 of the Zoning Ordinance. In a Business District, a fence of eight feet or less, or a fence more than ten feet from the property line of a residential use, is not subject to that special permit requirement.
