General building work permit checklist — Collin County, Texas

Assembled from Collin County’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Collin County requires a permit for general building work.

When a permit is not required

A permit is not required for projects that do not disturb ground or add footprint on a parcel of land and do not extensively remodel a dwelling by adding a bedroom or otherwise doubling the value of the structure; the county lists re-roofing, new electrical service on an existing structure, roof-mounted solar panels, and water heater or AC unit change-outs among the projects that do not require a permit.
