Projects that do not require an electrical permit include replacing switch or outlet plates, junction box covers, outlets, fuses, and plug-type circuit breakers; replacing light fixtures with the same style fixture and equivalent wattage; installing plug-in or battery-operated smoke detectors; and same-for-same replacement of electric dishwashers, ranges, ovens, garbage compactors, air conditioning units, heat pumps, radiant heat, well water pumps, humidifiers, and electric furnaces.
