Section 632 — Locating Utilities

Description

632.01This work consists of locating, marking, and providing a record of existing underground utilities.

Construction Requirements

632.02General. Follow the requirements of FAR Clause 52.236- 3 Site Investigation and Conditions Affecting the Work. The locations of existing utilities shown in the plans are approximate. Locate, protect, and repair utilities according to Section 107.

632.03Locating Utility. Use appropriate means to locate utilities including , but not limited to , geophysical prospective technique s, and electromagnetic, sonic, or other energy field devices to establish alignment of utilities where applicable. Thread a traceable duct rod through non -metallic utility pipes to locate them. Locate the utility by perpendicular trench or test pits, if approved. Excavate to the assumed depth using hand tools as needed to avoid disturbing utilities. If excavating within roadway pavements where traffic is being maintained, excavate by air -vacuum methods or equivalent, keeping the area of disturbance to a minimum. Uncover the utility sufficiently to make accurate measurements. Restore test pit or trenched areas to their original condition. Excavate and backfill according to Section 209. If a conflict exists, cooperate with the utility owner according to Section 107.

632.04Reporting. Submit a report of the utility locate within 48 hours. In the report, describe each utility found, the locating methods utilized, plan and profile mapping of the utility, photographs, and recommendations for mitigation or relocation.

632.05Marking. Mark the utility location by flags or paint. Maintain the markings for the duration of the project.

632.06Acceptance. Locating utilities will be evaluated under Subsec tion 106.02. Excavation and backfill will be evaluated under Section 209.

Measurement

632.07Measure the Section 632 pay items listed in the bid schedule according to Subsection 109.02 .

Payment

632.08The accepted quantities will be paid at the contract price per unit of measurement for the Section 632 pay items listed in the bid schedule. Payment will be full compensation for the work prescribed in this Section. See Subsection 109.05 . Progress p ayments for lump sum pay items will be prorated based on total work completed under this Section.
