shown on the Plans, or if not shown on the Plans, use Douglas Fir No. 1 or equal for timber, lumber and piling. 499 ALASKA 2020 SECTION 714 PRESERVATIVES FOR TI MBER
714-2.01 PRESERVATIV ES. Pressure treat all timber that is exposed to weather, water, or soil
to AASHTO M 133 or the AWPA Standards, using preservatives registered by the US Environ mental Protection Agency.
1.Timber . Use the preservatives and treatment processes of AASHTO M133, and if in aquatic enviroments, and Best Management Practices for the Use of Treated Wood in Aquatic Environments (BMPs), published by the Western Wood Preservers Institute, 12503 SE Mill Plain Blvd., #205, Vancouver, WA 98684 (Phone: 360 -693-9958). Treat products according to AWPA Standard U1, Commodity Specification A: Sawn Products for soil and freshwater applications meeting Use Category 4B.
2.Glued- Lamin ated Timber . Treat products according to AWPA Standard U1, Commodity Specification F: Wood Composites. Use preservatives for soil and freshwater applications meeting Use Category 4B.
3.Timber Piling. Treat products according to AWPA Standard U1, Commodity Specification E: Round Timber Piling. Use Category 4B for soil and freshwater contact. Marine piling products shall be treated according to AWPA Standard U1, Commodity Specification G: Marine (Salt Water) Applications. Use Category 5A for salt water applic ation.
4.Lumber. Pressure treat all lumber in accordance with AWPA Standards or according to AASHTO M 133.
