76-6.01 General
76-6.01A Summary
Section 76 -6 includes specifications for destroying wells including water wells, monitoring wells, exploration holes, holes created by cone penetration test, and holes created for slope inclinometer casing, sensing cables, and cable for sensors. Before starting earthwork, destroy wells described in the supplemental project information to be destroyed. For temporary wells installed during construction, destroy the wells .

Submit the well permit before starting job site activities. Submit Well Compl etion Report under Department of Water Resources requirements. Submit a copy of the Department of Water Resources Well Completion Report within 20 days after the well is destroyed , as an informational submittal.

76-6.01D(3) Pe rmits
Obtain a well permit from local enforcement agency with jurisdiction.
76-6.02 Materials
If not specified by the local enforcement agency with jurisdiction, sealing material must be neat cement grout consisting of cement and water. Cement must comply with section 90 -1.02B(2), except testing is not required. Water must comply with section 90 -1.02D, except test is not required if municipally supplied potable water is used. Do not exceed 6 gallons of water per 94 lb of cement. SECTION 76 WELLS You may add bentonite, up t o 6 percent by dry weight of cement. If authorized, you may use sealing material that complies with either of the following:

2.California Water Well Standards , Bulletins 74 -81 and 74 -90, Section 9, Subsection D, Sealing Material
76-6.03 Construction
Remove obstructions that interfere with the work and prevent materials from entering the well . Where pumping equipment is present, remove the pump, motor, discha rge piping, well cap, and appurtenances. Remove concrete at the wellhead. For well with casing, remove the casing to at least 5 feet below grade. Place the sealing material in one continuous operation. Jamming, bridging, free fall, or dilution of sealing material is not allowed. For well with casing, sealing material must inundate the casing. Measure and record the volume of sealing material placed in the well. Verify the well is completely filled with sealing material and without voids. If the measurement indicates voids exist in the well, drill through the sealing material the following day and refill the sealing material. Backfill depression caused by settling and shrinking of sealing material with additional sealing material. Do not perform work within 6 feet of the well within 2 days after placing the sealing material. Restore job site to original grade with the same materials and composition as the surrounding area and to a comparable density of the surrounding materials.
