211.3 Construction Requirements
Fabricate the expanded polystyrene in standard sizes that are typically 4-foot wide by 2.5-foot thick by 8 to 16-foot long blocks. Trim the blocks prior to arriving at the job site w ith a uniformly even surface with a tolerance of ¼ inch in 10 feet. Cut the blocks using a saw unless alternative cutti ng methods have been approved by the Engineer. Provide temporary weighting and guying down of the lightweight material as required until all blocks are built into a homogeneous mass. Construct the geofoam-fill in successive layers of bloc ks with the block’s long axis alternating by 90° and offsetting blocks by half their widths to prevent the continuation of joints within the polystyrene mass. Connect the polystyrene blocks w ith gripper plates. Place gripper pl ates between horizontal layers of geofoam as required. Do not damage the EPS during construction or storage. Protect the EPS from petroleum based solvents, flame, and other ignition sources. Do not expose the E PS to direct sunlight. Keep the expanded polystyrene covered with a light-colored opaque tarp.
211.4 Measurment and Payment
The geofoam-fill will be measured by the cubic yard. Payment for "Geofoam-Fill" at the contract unit price is full compensation for the specified work.
