1.4 DEFINITIONS Not Used

1.5 Submittals

A.Manufacturer’s product data sheets for review.
1.Include installation instructions for information.

Part 2 — Products

2.1 Preformed Sheet Membrane System

A.Use a sheet-type membrane system with a self-adhesive surface suitable for use under hot asphalt overlays. Membrane system includes:
1.Preformed sheet membrane
2.Primer when recommended by the manufacturer
3.Mastic for overlap seams as required by the manufacturer
4.Non-working joint/crack sealer as recommended by the manufacturer.
B.Meet the mechanical properties listed in Table 1. Table 1 Mechanical Properties of Membrane Property Value Method Thickness, inch 0.065 min. ASTM E 96, Water Permeance, perms 0.10 max. method Strip Tensile Strength: ASTM D 882 Strip Tensile Strength 80 lb/inch (1230 psi) min. or Grab Tensile Strength: Grab Tensile Strength ASTM D 4632 200 lb. min. Part 3 — Execution

3.1 Limitations

A.Do not work during wet conditions or when the concrete surface or ambient air temperatures are below 50 degrees F.
B.Do not apply the membrane if it has rained or is expected to rain within 12 hours of application.
C.Do not begin asphalt overlay surface preparation or backfill until the Engineer has inspected the membrane.

3.2 Preparation

A.Concrete Surface
1.Do not place the waterproofing membrane until concrete repairs are complete.
2.Allow concrete to dry for 48 hours after wet curing is complete and curing materials have been removed.
3.Remove all sharp ridges and projections that can puncture the membrane.
4.Sandblast to remove asphalt, curing compounds, and other foreign material from the entire concrete surface.
a.Sandblast the bottom four inches of curbs or parapets.
5.Vacuum or sweep and use compressed air to remove all dust and loose material from the concrete surface.
B.Joints and Cracks
1.Follow membrane manufacturer’s recommendations to seal cracks and cold joints greater than 3/16 inch wide.

3.3 Application

A.Follow membrane manufacturer’s recommendations for application procedures.
B.Apply primer recommended by the manufacturer of the membrane material.
C.Place the membrane starting at the low point and working to the high point.
1.Overlap preformed membrane strips at least 4 inch or as required by the Manufacturer, whichever is larger.
D.Place the membrane on the vertical face of the concrete parapet or curb to one inch above the surface of the overlay shown.
E.Patch torn and cut areas and narrow overlaps.
1.Extend the patch at least 4 inch or as required by the Manufacturer, whichever is larger, beyond deficient areas.
2.Bond the patch firmly to the surface.
F.Seal all transverse and longitudinal seams and terminations of waterproofing membrane sheets with mastic as required by the Manufacturer.
1.Longitudinal seams designed to be self-adhering overlaps do not need to be sealed with mastic.
G.Allow only rubber tire vehicles on the membrane.
1.Do not allow public traffic.
